Yours Truly state that they set out to make music that can be described as “nostalgia that is heard.” And listening to Driving In Circles, I couldn’t agree more. They may have only formed in the last couple of years but they manage to build a dreamy-indie sound that swirls down through the ages, with plenty of ambient pop and chilled, college rock touchstones visited long the way.
Guitars chime and shimmer, rather than grunt or grind and it is through gossamer slices of sweet noise that they lay the foundations of their understated yet ornate music. Floating and drifting is the order of the day and although they are essentially wielding the musical trappings of the rock and roll fraternity, they do it with such deftness and delicacy that they transform those building blocks into something all together more gorgeous, something more graceful.
The fact that they remind me of bands like The Church, which in my world is about as high a compliment as you can get, is just a wonderful bonus.
