This seductively simple and wonderfully graceful new song from Alias Wayne covers a lot of ground, explores many hidden depths, and weaves together some clever concepts in its mere three minutes.
Inspired by a complex mix of feelings when viewing the spectacular, not to mention the spectacularly old, architecture of Europe whilst thinking of all the war and destruction that such buildings have witnessed as man’s greed and ambitions played out across the land around them, as always, it is the simple songs which have the most to unpack.
A delicate and finessed folk guitar guides his voice, and eventually other lush vocals, through a flute-infused soundscape; spacious and atmospheric, it becomes ever more dreamlike as such sad thoughts are joined by more positive dreamlike fragments and ideas, musings and memories.
Reality and imagination, poignancy and poise all come together, a seemingly surreal series of images being painted but ones actually born of experiences and events, people and places.
Gorgeous music made at that point where dream and reality, delicacy and deftness, landscape and memory all meet. Lovely stuff.
