Taken from the soon-to-be-released album Chaos Magic, Bang Bang Bang Bang, the new single sent out to release the audience and test the sonic waters, feels like one of those rabble-rousing slices of rock and roll that people have been punching the air and stomping across the alternative night club dance floor since…well, since rock and roll was invented.

But more than just a fist-in-the-air anthem of raw, staccato riffs, this is anything but just another slice of foot-on-the-monitor, heads-down-no nonsense, incendiary, rock-and-roll-boogie. I mean, it is all of those things… but more besides. Much more.

And that is the clever thing: amongst the punch, there is poise; within the muscle, we find melody, the energy is driven by a sort of eloquence, at least in terms of the language of the streets, and alongside the groove there is a sort of sonic grandeur…an anthemic quality forged by elements much more clever than merely volume and velocity.

Bang Bang Bang Bang, despite its straightforward name, is actually more deftly wrought and dexterously delivered than you realize on just the first spin. Keep digging. Under the obvious bluster and bravado is a very clever song. It’s just that The Tim Lancaster Conspiracy seems to prefer to hide its musical light under a sonic bushel.

That’s rock and roll for you!
