Sitting between a Celtic-infused folky sound and a more countrified delivery, Van of Urantia gives us a gentle, acoustic-led celebration of a song. Given the iconic books he takes his name from, it is not unexpected that “A Kind Hello” is a song that seeks to draw us nearer to god. But Van is smart enough not to overwhelm the listener with the message.
And so, as the groove kicks in, guitars drive along, harmonicas hoot, and violins flow, he sings a song of unity and love, empathy and understanding that we can all get on board with, irrespective of culture or creed.
Whether you are a person of faith or not, this song still resonates. No matter what book or teaching you hold dear, or if you follow none at all, surely everyone agrees that being kind to each other, contact, and communication are what make us human.
Essentially, it doesn’t matter what you believe in; it’s a great song, and all it advocates is to be more human, and indeed humane, to one another. Who can argue with that?
