Well, that’s how you do the “break-up song.” Where others would be wallowing in self-pity or regret, here we find Dusty Edinger delivering the most infectious of songs, one woven from the most earwormy riffs and contagiously singalong lyrics.
“Welcome to our Demise” is an old-school rock-and-roll groover reworked, pepped up, and polished for a more contemporary audience, not to mention a more fun time. It is also wonderfully philosophical, even mature, musing on the idea that sometimes it is better to stop trying to hold everything together and just walk away. We’ve all been there – stayed longer than we should have, used up too much energy on something that we know in our heart isn’t meant to be. What can you do… well, write a killer song about it is obviously the option Edinger has chosen.
And then there is the video, a refreshingly AI-free, cut and paste ride through visual puns, surreal imagery, and no small amount of silliness, and the perfect accompaniment to the song – a wonderfully complementary package of sound and vision.
It’s a song that rolls on with unstoppable energy, is sonically addictive, and lyrically relatable. Come for the great tune, stay for the words of wisdom!
