Mondays have, unlike for most of us, been popular in the music world. Although The Boomtown Rats were famously not fans, other artists have given us Manic, Blue, and Long Mondays; they’ve been Slow or Stormy, others have ushered in New Moons or been confined to Chelsea. Now, we have a Solemn one courtesy of the Order of Silence.
It’s a surprisingly upbeat piece, one walking a fine —and perhaps even jaunty —line between pop and folk, all rattling beats and chiming guitars, rich with lush harmonies, horn crescendoes, and driving on unwavering energy.
And all this comes in contrast to what the video reveals—the guy who lost the girl, who we see metaphorically heading off on new journeys. But read deeper into the imagery being displayed here, and you see even the sad-eyed boy who seems to spend too much time hanging about on rain-sodden railway platforms is finally blessed by the rays of the sun as the clouds part.
It’s going to be alright after all. Life moves on…that’s what it does.
