Fishbone comes from a time and a scene that had no problem getting things off their chest. It was a time when no one seemed to have a problem with rocking the boat, as they do today, and in fact, music makers seemed to be encouraged by their fans, their fellow bands, and even the musical powers-that-be…the underground powers-that-be at least…to do so.

If ever there was a time when boats needed rocking, messages needed shouting from the rooftops, and people needed to be shaken from their entrenched and uninformed slumber, then it is now.

On the eve of the US election, they make no bones about calling out one of the candidates, and it is gratifying to see the more liberal-leaning creatives playing as hard and fast, as down and dirty, as uncompromising, as the right does, indeed playing them at their own game is the only way. Why fight with one hand tied behind your back when you can go in all sonic guns blazing?

And fight Fishbone does, their weapons being an unfiltered ability to call it as they see it and to put those thoughts to the most infectious and incendiary, ska-grooved blends of punky-funk-infused rock and roll.

I guess we know how they are voting on Tuesday. Good on ya!
