If “Speak Too Soon” was one of those songs that sits perfectly between pop accessibility, rock grit, and indie anthemics, “Out In The Night” proves that finding their way to such a hallowed spot on the music maker’s Venn Diagram was anything but a fluke. In fact, this time out, Mercy Kelly takes all those inviting elements to even higher ground.
Yes, here, we find them in a place where their music is more addictive, driving harder and even more sky-searing – the punch lands harder, the infectiousness is even more compelling, and the grooves are …well, groovier!
We live in a post-genre world, where, supposedly, there are no rules or demarcations, where genres or sonic allegiances are fading into the past, and music makers are free to forge their songs out of any and every sonic scrap and musical shiny thing that catches their eye. Yet few have found that way to the creative sweet spot that Mercy Kelly call home, one from which you can deliver music that appeals to discerning fans across the board without ever compromising the various elements it has drawn together.
Popster, rocker, indie kid, fans of the commercial and the underground, the alternative and the more mainstream, not to mention the discerning music aficionado, are all going to find plenty to love here.
