Yes, you can swoon over deft and delicate sonics. You can stroke your chin, contemplating the cleverness of ornate song structures. You can marvel at the word play and intricacies, the hidden lyrical depths of songs that aim to merge music and poetry. But sometimes, you just need a rousing, foot-on-the-monitor slice of punchy, in-your-face, rock and roll. And in those times, Floodhounds will see you right.
Near-Life Experience is built along traditional rock and roll lines, big, raw riffs, thundering drums, a driving bass and, the one thing that many miss, enough space to let everything pool and percolate, breathe and come alive.
But, as always, it ain’t what you do; it’s the way that you do it. And so, whilst the musical elements might seem familiar, the result is fresh as a daisy. A big, ragged, metallic, sharp-edged daisy.
Sometimes you need a song that kicks arse and cuts the mustard…in those times, it pays to have Floodhounds on speed dial. I know I have!
