With a name like Minny Pops, you might be expecting something rather more juvenile. But once you learn that the band took their name from an early Korg drum machine, toured with both Joy Division and New Order and made music that blends conceptual art with slightly wonky music, you realise that something else is entirely going on.

Their latest track, Dad Dog, blends slow electro-rock grooves and distant Mariachi bands with wordplay and puns into a …well, I’m still trying to figure out what it is. just know that I like it, which is good enough for me. Here ends the sonic sermon.
