World music is a strange term. We use it to label specific pockets of cultural music—Bulgarian folk singing, Cuban jazz, Indian classical music—and forget that music is a universal power. Real world music, music that is of the world, made across the world, for the world, is better represented by the sort of music Mr. Nic makes, music that is woven together from all kinds of strands, drawn from all genres and geographies, sounds and styles.
“Find Your Peace!” delivers a poignant and powerful message, one that is both timeless, and, as the world seems to become an increasingly darker and more complex place, timely. He takes a pop-folk groove, adds gorgeous gospel-infused choirs, bluesy guitar lines, a shuffling groove, and breezy brass, and delivers a smooth, soulful, infectious, uplifting and rewarding sound.
World music is not one small sound in one corner of the world—not anymore. It is music made by the world coming together, of cultural sounds and musical styles mixing and matching and merging, crossing borders and musical demarcations to create a whole new global music renaissance—music just like this.
