There is a wonderful delicacy and flow to “Bedsores,” the new one from the excellently monikered Crime Spree in Candyland. They have always been a band that looks to give indie music a facelift; here, they do so by marrying solid bass grooves to shimmering dreampop guitar lines, a collision of indie opposites that turn out to be oh-so-attractive.

And with the former tethering the song in a sense of the physical and the latter adding a gorgeous ethereal gloss to the indie template, we are treated to a wonderful balance of the groovesome and the graceful. Solid enough that you can dance to the dynamic rhythms, shimmering enough that you can just let the whole thing wash over you.

There is something of Cocteau Twins, echoed in its shimmering surfaces, yet not as heavy and certainly not as vocally impenetrable, but playing with the same array of sheen and gloss, chime and charm. And at just two minutes, it is a song that simply gets on with the job of beguiling, never losing focus, naturally spiralling from one brilliant musical idea to another.

What an excellent record, brief but brilliant and beyond doubt beautiful.
