Switchin’ Rails – Powers of the Monk (reviewed by Dave Franklin)

The intriguingly named Powers of the Monk is a handle forged from the monikers of its two players, David s. Monk and CasSondra Powers and their latest single, Switchin’ Rails is a gorgeous and sonically wide screen affair.

Sitting somewhere at a point where introspective indie, Americana and folk music, not to mention a few bluesy licks and, certainly for this song, ethereal vocals from beyond this world, all come together, it is a genuinely beguiling song.

It doesn’t matter how many tags and generic labels I throw around; nothing will quite prepare you for this song, or indeed how good it is, so you might as well stop reading and just give the song a spin.
