Blending the rabble-rousing and liberating voice of conscious soul and some shuffling, classic R&B grooves, sparse guitar riffs and driving energies, this is the sound of the Mendip Delta and its leading light and sonic protagonist, Charlton Lane, the region’s very own Martin Luther Kingsdown.

Shuffling, tribal, Santana-esque percussion and a cool wash of 70’s coils of soulful guitar licks are joined by additional layers of sonics, the song cocooning itself slightly in additional musical weight as it goes.

Freedoms Free is a short, sharp, and shockingly fun blend of Curtis Mayfield’s righteousness, punk-blues spikiness, soul preaching, and Western country swagger. At well under two minutes, it is less a song and more a soundbite and call to arms—the sound of the Stokes Croft funky militia leading the revolution to overthrow oppression all along the muddy banks of the Avon.

And why not?
