If you needed any more proof that the world is indeed a small place, where cultures, art, music, and ideas are constantly mixing and matching across distances and borders (physical and otherwise), in a way that only a couple of decades ago would have been unthinkable, then this is it.

“Burning Carnival” is a clever song that blends Japanese pop charm with South American grooves, Western musical structures, and Eastern delicacy.

But, aside from this clever cultural and musical mixing pot, “Burning Carnival” is about one thing – dance. It is a song that makes you want to move. By the time it has run through its middle instrumental break and incorporated soul horns, heavy funk, infectiousness, bright bass melodies, and Latin beats, you will find yourself totally in love with its adventure and inventiveness. Believe me.

The video that accompanies the song also echoes the carnival vibes of the music as its vibrant dancer is transported to the stage to become the South American fan dancer of her dreams, the carnival star.

It’s a great pop song, yes, of course, but it’s a song that cleverly reminds us that ideas and art are no longer bound by genre or geography. As “Burning Carnival” shows us, the world is a better place for such artistic freedom and cross-cultural creativity.
