Before we get to the lilting loveliness of “You Wonder,” the new single from Euplasia, we need to talk about its message. Presumably a celebration of a small child’s potential, wondering who they might grow into, where they might go, and what they might do with their life, it is simply a gorgeous and universal sentiment.

We all look at the very youngest and wonder not only what world awaits them but also how they might change it, or at least meet it head-on. All you can do is nurture them, try to instill the best traits and ethics, prepare them for a world that rarely plays fair, and prepare them for life, which is currently a blank canvas awaiting their brushstrokes. After that, all we can do is watch them grow, catch them when they fall, and hope they will be, if nothing else, happy.

And musically, the song matches the same sentiment. It is easy on the ear and accessible, a lovely slice of indie-pop, for want of a better term, a soaring and sweetly adorned soundtrack to such a fundamental and relatable concept.

This gorgeously constructed song might seem like a small, even throw-away piece of mainstream-bound music, but it is so much more than that; in its lyrics, you find perhaps the most imperative theme. Surely, the world is forged and driven by people, people hopefully doing the right thing. Is it not up to one generation to guide the next in the ways and means of creating, hopefully, a better world than the one we grew up in? Something even more poignant, given the banks of dark clouds and the lack of empathy and understanding that seem to be defining where we are right now.

Do not happy people make a happy world? That may be enough. A fantastic song and a poignant, refreshingly life-affirming message for these troubled times.
