How can a song be so powerful, so impactful, so unavoidably in your face when it hardly does anything? If you want to know the answer, you should ask Dirty Power, as they have created exactly that with their latest single, I Did My Time.
It is fair to say that there isn’t much going on a lot of the time – a singular beat, a spaciously picked guitar, a mournful and marvellous voice and from there, they add percussion to punctuate and distant, almost imperceivable sonics to add weight and atmosphere. And that’s it. But, I Did My Time is one of the most potent and poignant collections of, well, if not nothing, then certainly not much, you will probably ever hear. Less is more? Yes, and then some!
