Well, that is what is known as the slow burn. It is a song that starts in understatement and delicacy and which, by adding various tones and textures, in this case, slowly growing sonics, increasingly lush pastoral vocals and additional weight and drive, ends up via explosive, abrasive and incendiary guitar sounds in a place of cavernous noise and squalling anthemics.
Bittersweet covers a lot of ground as it moves from one end of the spectrum to the other, yet it does it, with the exception of perhaps of that purposefully jolting three-quarter point guitar onslaught, effortlessly and through natural evolution.
It’s a joy to behold.
