Born in Haiti but finding a new life in Charlottesville, Virginia, Haitian Pop has always carried two worlds within him. Now based in Atlanta, he folds those roots and experiences into a sound that is as melodic as it is vibrant. A rising roots-pop vocalist and a seasoned audio engineer, he is as comfortable behind the desk as he is at the microphone. The result is music that brims with Caribbean flavour yet sits comfortably within the modern pop and urban landscape, carried by a voice that balances energy with emotion.
“New Day” sets the scene and establishes the sonic stall perfectly, a blend of dexterous lyrical flows and spacious atmospheres that frame the voice, skittering beats that drive it along, and beguiling sonics that weave their way through the middle ground. It’s modern rap-roots-pop, but it still pays homage to those early hip-hop pioneers. “Tango” pushes slightly into more R&B territory yet never loses its edge, never loses its sense of reality “Amazing Grace” blends a soulful sound with reflective lyricism, and “Wire Love” ticks along on shimmering backbeats, over which Haitian Pop delivers his signature blend of raw narratives and hard-edge experiences, telling it like it is for the man in the street.
Urban music, hip-hop, rap, and all the scenes they spawned have never stood still. From its beginnings in South Bronx to its global spread and inevitable evolution, they have grown, evolved, expanded, returned, and become something richly diverse. Haitian Pop is a clear example of this constant transformation, fusing the old and the new, the home grown with the reinvented into something both familiar and forward-looking.
