Sky Happy Birthday – Amy (reviewed by Dave Franklin)

Songs are made for all sorts of reasons, but sometimes the best music comes from the simplest ideas. “Sky Happy Birthday” is just such a song. Forget complex sonics and intense messages about politics and environmentalism, rights and struggles, as the name suggests, this is a song of celebration.

As its bouncy and buoyant beats bound along, it is clear that it is a song about wishing someone happy birthday, but the twist is this. Even if you can’t be with that person, you can sing to them, and indeed with them. Raise your voices into the sky, and the wind and the weather will do the rest, uniting voices into a celestial chorus high above the earth.

What better reason for making music could you have? A happy and harmonious tune that is an excuse to add more music to the world. Forget the idea of playing live, performing for other people, and doing so for a career, “Sky Happy Birthday” merely advocates singing together to make the world a happier and more musically pleasing place, even when you are miles apart.

It is a song that puts a smile on everyone’s lips and I can’t think of a better reason to make music…can you?
