Built from the same musical structures that made blues both accessible and relevant, Run Rabbit is the modern successor of a century or more of troubadour finger-pickers and wandering minstrels. It is a deceptive song, rising from a sort of simple nursery rhyme style tun into a howling blues maelstrom.
It runs (pun intended) from a hushed and sweet style, a lilting groove and some gentle licks into a full-on blues-anthem, slow-burning and building its way through banjo inclusions, and dexterous guitars, building beats and backs o additional harmonies. But it is all so subtly done that it is only when you look back at where you have come from that you realise what a feat of sonic engineering you have just witnessed.
And all that is just over four minutes. How cool is that?
