Mentioned in Dispatches: Aquamarine – MU5H

We hear a lot about ambient and even ethereal music these days, and when we do, our minds most often turn to spacious, drifting music carved out of gentle synths and sound washes. It’s usually fine but often not that adventurous or original.

With Aquamarine, MU5H shows us another way. This music can be described as ambivalent and ethereal, as well as all the other adjectives I used, but it is also music built around beat, a gentle one, but beat nonetheless, and a defined if delicate structure. It is this combination of the integrity of the recognisable pop/rock form and the more washed-out grace of the sonics used that makes this such a great song.
