Have Your Fun – Maya Mendez (reviewed by Dave Franklin)

We have all been there. You give everything to a relationship, and before long, we realize just how one-sided things have become, how those minor red flags you thought were not going to be an issue, should have been heeded, and now, here you are in a toxic relationship. We all do it; we all stay too long when we should have walked away, and we all put up with more than we should have.

And it is these concerns, these thoughts and feelings, these regrets, that she lays out before us, the seductive and soulful singer-songwriter vibes providing the perfect tone for the subject matter. Maya’s hushed and reflective vocals are laced with feelings of melancholy and wistfulness and the bitter-sweet understanding that things will carry on as they have.

This is a song for those who need to remember who they are, those who need to be reminded that they don’t deserve to be treated this way, an understated anthem to those who have forgotten that sometimes you are better off on your own.

Honest and intimate, personal yet relatable. Fantastic stuff.
