It’s always refreshing to see artists making music that fits very much into the modern dance-popscape, making songs with instantly apparent commercial appeal and doing so via old-school instruments…or at least a blend of analogue and digital. So much music is now made purely via the laptop or the studio equivalent that seeing a music maker in this realm wielding a guitar and playing piano is, perhaps sadly, something to be commented on.
‘Walk On The Fire’ is a song of celebration, a tribute to that strength and confidence that comes from knowing that there is someone special and supportive in your life, that feeling that with them next to you, you can do anything.
Bass and beats gently pulse, sonic washes flow and float, subtle dynamics ebb and flow, and the vocals whisper reassuringly in the listener’s ear. What’s not to love?
Taken from Mr B‘s debut album, True, this is one of those sort of songs that will slip easily into the more sophisticated end of the mainstream market; its blends of pop subtlety, chilled dance, soulfulness and relatable messaging tick all the right boxes, and, given a fair wind and a bit of luck, is one of those tunes that could end up as an outsider hit or the score to the credits of a Hollywood romance movie or the club smash of the season…or all three.
Pop music made for the club? Dance music with broader appeal? Soulful seduction made into song? Poised, polished, relatable and contagious in an elegant and understated way. It’s all that and more.
