As I listen to Yellowcar, I hear the same gorgeous blends of folk, pop, and indie music that I first heard all those years ago when I first heard Suzanne Vega. And that, as musical reference points go, is about as good as it gets.
Here, the same deft and delicate guitar work, minimal approach to additional layering and instrumentation, heartfelt biographies running through the lyrics, and even something about the vocal delivery and diction are present throughout.
I’m not saying that Marr Not Meeger’s music isn’t original, or that Yellowcar isn’t a great song. Anything but. All I’m saying is that there is a touch of an older, classic sound running through it, and that is never a bad thing. It’s fresh and familiar. Perfect.
