The great thing about Helsinki Horizon’s latest single, Tie Them To The Mast, is the way that they run robust alt-rock structures – driving beats and brooding bass lines – through a more dream state landscape. One that seems to be forged from a swirl of shimmering rhythmic guitars and scintillating lead lines, hazy vocals and washes and waves of flowing sonics.
It is this play between the solid structures and the sonic drifts, between the muscle and mellifluousness, the groove and the grace, the focused drive and the floating atmospheres, that makes it such an intriguing and beguiling prospect.
