It’s been a good day for singer-songwriter music today. Dominic Romano’s Steady is the third such track I’ve played and had under the pen. If anything, he raises the benchmark even higher on a day when it was already enjoying a fairly elevated position.
You could argue that Steady is nothing new, but it isn’t easy to do anything particularly new with just a guitar and a voice or two (here, he is joined by Anelda, who rounds out the harmonies perfectly). But it is a song that illustrates perfectly what matters in the singer-songwriter world. It isn’t about breaking molds or reinventing the genre, fusing sounds and styles, or adding gimmicks; being a singer-songwriter comes down to one thing…writing great songs. Steady is a great song! It’s as simple as that.
