I don’t know why people keep trying to update and improve on the singer-songwriter format when it found its perfect form decades ago. And to all those acoustic pop wannabees and indie-folksters trying to make the genre move with the times, I would point to Sam Weber and songs like Hey Hey as to why such a move is futile.
Leaning into the sonic territory of artists such as Jackson Browne and Ryan Adams, Hey Hey reminds us that such a sound doesn’t need to do anything as gimmicky as move with the times. Why? Because it is already timeless.
