And let’s remember what such events are all about. It isn’t just about watching a few bands in a park; well, that’s part of it, but it’s also so much more than that. It is a celebration of Swindon’s music, a nod to the past and torch being carried into the future. Not only does it bring gig-goers together, but behind the scenes too it builds networks, reinforces friendships, and reminds both bands and organisers why they do it. It’s about community, celebration, artistic expression, and fun, yes, but it’s also about ensuring that such events continue.
The event might have been set up as a tribute to the wonderful and much-missed Dave Young, but it is also a place that helps foster the Dave Youngs of the future, not to mention raising money for The Prospect Hospice and all the great work they do.
You might think you’re just drinking beer, watching bands, and dancing around like a loon, but you’re helping to ensure that the spirit of music in this town stays alive, especially in these challenging times.
Have a great one, everybody.
