The Delicate Balance of All Things – Beauty in Chaos ft. Wayne Hussey (reviewed by Dave Franklin)

I’m never sure if Michael Ciravolo deftly steers his musical vehicle, Beauty in Chaos, into the sonic waters of the various guests he works with or if he instead trusts them to put their stamp on the music he is making. I suspect that the answer lays somewhere between both approaches but however he gets there these collaborations always seem an effortless mix of both worlds, music which is totally fitting with the back catalogue’s of all concerned.

Wayne Hussey is no stranger to Beauty in Chaos collaborations, their brand of dark, brooding rock is the perfect place to find him and the wonderfully titled Delicate Balance of All Things in particular is a song which is the perfect point on The Venn diagram between band and guest. It swerves the gothic cliches and po-faced paganism which less experienced musicians often fall foul of, instead playing with bleak, romances and a melodic groove both of which come with age. Guitars slash and burn their way through low end bass lines and haunting keyboard washes, and the vocals seem to come in the form of a half-heard, almost spoken-word delivery, adding even more menace and mood to the proceedings.

Another great song from the swirling, all-star musical gang that Beauty in Chaos has become and the perfect calling card for the forthcoming album The Storm Before The Calm.
